Inaugural ESRA early career researcher award

The European Survey Research Association invites entries to its 2011 inaugural Early-Career Researcher award. The competition is intended to recognize excellence in scholarly research by new researchers in our field.

Criteria

ESRA welcomes papers in any field related to survey research, broadly defined, including research on (a) theoretical issues in survey methodology, (b) the use of statistical techniques in the design, adjustment, or analysis of survey data, (c) empirical applications of survey methodology. Papers should be 15 to 25 pages in length, A4, single space, and will be judged based on the quality of research design, originality, significance, organization, and presentation. The papers will be completed versions of paper proposals that were submitted by closing date (14 January 2011) of the 2011 paper submission, and that are accepted in the programme by the conference organisers.

Eligibility

The competition is open to researchers who have completed their PhD not earlier than July 18, 2006, or researchers who do not hold a PhD and who started a career in survey research after that date, or students currently registered full-time at a university. Faculty co-authors are acceptable, with the stipulation that the eligible researcher must be the first author of a paper. Eligibility is limited to those who plan to attend the 2011 ESRA Conference in Lausanne. Submitted papers may not have been published before in an international reviewed journal. It is anticipated that the awarded paper will be published in Survey Research Methods.

Award

The author of the winning paper will be awarded a cash prize of 600 Euros and exemption for the conference fee (including the conference dinner).

Review Committee

The winning paper and honourable mentions will be selected by a review committee composed of survey researchers who are member of the ESRA board and by an extra external member.
