Hotels

Accommodation is the individual responsibility of each participant. We strongly recommend all participants to reserve their hotel accommodations as soon as possible

Some hotels offer special rates for conference participants. We have reserved a preliminary contingent of 400 rooms at different price points. You can make your reservation using the key word “ESRA”. Please note that these conditions are only guaranteed until the reservation deadlines listed below and that prices are subject to change slightly. Please check the reservation and cancellation policy of the hotels carefully while making your reservation.

Day tickets for the public transport system are included in the visitor’s tax that guests need to pay in all hotels in Lausanne.

Also, Lausanne has a very nice hostel that may be of interest to some. That information is listed below as well, though we have no formal arrangements with them. Feel free to contact the organizing team, in case of the need of some information or assistance concerning your accommodation.

If you are experiencing problems finding a hotel room directly in Lausanne, we recommend staying in the neighboring cities of Morges, Vevey, Yverdon-les-Bains, Montreux or in smaller towns along the lake side to Geneva. Public transport is very good in the Lake Geneva area and travelling to the conference venue should not take more than 30 minutes from any of these locations.

Travel

Travelling to Lausanne

The fastest way to travel to Lausanne from abroad is to fly to the airports of Zurich or Geneva. From Zurich airport trains to Lausanne take between 2.5h (direct connections) and 3h (indirect) and go every half hour. The last train connection from Zurich is at 21.43 o´clock. From Geneva airport trains to Lausanne take between 45min and 60min and leave every 20 minutes.

On the website of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB you can search for all public transport connections from train stations in many European countries to Switzerland as well as train and bus connections within Switzerland. On this website you can enter city names, bus or train stops as well as addresses for example of your hotel and the best connections from the closest public transport points will be retrieved.

Travelling in Lausanne

Lausanne has a very good public transport system with buses and 2 metro lines. For a schematic overview of the public transport system see here.

Day tickets for the public transport system are included in the visitor’s tax that guests need to pay in all hotels in Lausanne. Please ask for these if you do not receive them upon your arrival. If you need to buy a ticket at a bus or metro stop it is useful to have coins ready as most machines do not accept bank notes.

It is best to use the website of the Swiss Federal Railways SBB to search for your connections when travelling in Lausanne. Here you can search for the best connection between stations/stops, street addresses or points of interest.

The closest metro station for the ESRA conference is on line M1 “Unil Sorge” directly behind the conference buildings in the Sorge Quarter (Amphimax and Amphipole). The closest bus stop is on line 30 “Champagne”. You can find a map of the campus and the buildings here.

Taxis can be found everywhere in Lausanne. To order one by phone, call +41 (0)844814814.

Currency

The currency in Switzerland is the “Swiss Franc” (CHF or Sfr.). An up-to-the-minute exchange rate can be found here.
