Lausanne 2011

The fourth Conference of the European Survey Research Association (ESRA) was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from the 18th to the 22nd of July, 2011.

Conference Programme

The complete conference programme book is now available online (large pdf). All participants will receive a printed version at the registration and information desk in Lausanne.

Monday: Prior to the official opening of the conference itself two short courses will take place in the afternoon starting at 14:30. At 18:00 all participants are invited to a welcome reception at the University of Lausanne. Drinks and finger food will be served on level 3 of the Amphimax building on the university campus.

Tuesday: The official opening of the conference is at 9:00 in room 351 of the Amphimax building. Short welcome speeches will be given, followed by the first keynote by Roger Tourangeau (University of Maryland, United States). He will speak about “The Bad and the Beautiful: Measurement Error in Web Surveys”. Conference sessions 1, 2 and 3 are planned for the rest of the day. The ESRA general assembly will take place in the evening at 18:00 in room 351 (all ESRA members are invited to participate in the General Assembly).

Wednesday: Sessions 4, 5, 6 and 7 are planned. In the evening at 19:30 the conference dinner cruise will take place on Lac Léman, during which the 2011 ESRA “Early Career Researcher Award” and the prize for “Outstanding Service to European Survey Research” will be awarded.

Thursday: For today sessions 8, 9, 10 and 11 are scheduled. Afterwards at 18:00 the second keynote will be given by Chris Skinner (University of Southampton, United Kingdom) on the “Analysis of Complex Survey Data” in room 351

Friday: On the final conference day sessions 12 and 13 will take place. The conference ends at 12:30

Host institutions

ESRA 2011 is organized by FORS the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences at the University of Lausanne.

FORS is a national centre of expertise in the social sciences and was established in 2008. It collaborates with researchers and research institutes in the social sciences in Switzerland and internationally. Its primary activities consist of:

  • production of survey data, including national and international surveys;
  • dissemination of data for use in secondary analysis;
  • research in empirical social sciences, with focus on survey methodology;
  • consulting services for researchers in Switzerland and abroad.
