Abstract:

This presentation addresses the analysis of change in longitudinal panel data, using three different structural equation models: the autoregressive (AR) model, the latent trajectory (LT) model, and the autoregressive latent trajectory (ALT) model. These models are applied to the data of 498 pupils on aggression, measured in 5 annual waves and starting at age 12. Special attention is paid to the interpretation of the various model parameters and the meaning they have for the description and understanding of developmental processes. All three models offer different possibilities to answer questions concerning change or development. Advantages and limitations of the models will be discussed.
