Warsaw 2009: Sessions

Comparative social surveys in Europe: issues in methodology and implementation

Planned on Tuesday, 16:30 - 18:30 in Room 1.4.

Coordinators:

  • Vijay Verma; University of Siena, Italy

Description:

The session will seek papers discussing concepts, requirements and problems etc. of comparative social statistics, particularly in the context of multi-country surveys in Europe, such as the LFS, EU-SILC, HBS, ESS and the new system called the EHS. Why is comparability important, how it may be assessed, and above all, how it may be improved in these surveys? We will encourage papers dealing with conceptual and empirical evaluation of comparability and other aspects of data quality in the main social surveys being implemented at the European level.
